Not all "fertility doctors" are board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. While many fertility physicians have completed some form of advanced training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, it is important that your physician be board certified. Dr. Levi is board certified in both Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility as well as in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
According to the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a reproductive endocrinologist is a sub-specialist in obstetrics and gynecology who provides consultation and/or comprehensive care of women with complex problems related to reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
This activity requires additional education and training to acquire advanced knowledge of the most current diagnostic and therapeutic approaches available. It also requires the practice of reproductive endocrine and infertility in a setting wherein all essential modalities are available and used appropriately.
In order to attain board certification, a physician must undergo a rigorous and comprehensive process to demonstrate the "possession of special knowledge and qualifications in effectively managing women with reproductive endocrine and infertility problems, as well as couples with infertility," according to the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
